Rimouski, Quebec

Competition
On the edge of a small untouched forest, the school overlooks the Rimouski landscape and the St. Lawrence River. The relationship between the density of trees and the sloping terrain — as well as its organization at the forest level and belvedere level — is at the heart of the proposal. Directly connected to the forest and outdoor spaces, the first floor is designed as a large, high, open plateau that links the school's various programs visually and physically. The roof of this plateau acts as a belvedere, an overhanging platform that overlooks the collective plateau and on which the kindergarten and elementary schools are located. The belvedere serves as a playground for the preschool and a large circulation corridor for all. Located at the height of the tree tops of the adjacent forest, the project floats in the greenery and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
