The project is a restoration of an existing semi-detached house in Outremont with a small addition at the back. The challenge was to make renovations that would go unnoticed, both inside and outside the house. The red zinc addition remains close in tint and depth to the existing red brick exterior to ensure a seamless material reading. The original interior, which was subdivided but linked by a series of doors and small openings, resulted in spaces that were very closed off, contrasting with the generous proportions of the rooms themselves. The objective was to link spaces while preserving the original character through limited interventions. Therefore, instead of removing walls, a series of large steel openings replaced the previous locations of doors. The contemporary interventions highlight the house's old and new elements through calculated alignment and joint details, creating a cohesive and coherent ensemble.
