The project works between the growing domestic needs of a young family and the regulatory impossibility of adding any surface area to their existing house due to heritage complex classifications. Although the project is made up of a multitude of minor modifications scattered over the three floors, the main intervention is in the recovery of space through the interiorization of the rear balconies while still respecting the repetitive typology of the street. By doing so, the kitchen and bedroom are significantly expanded and functionally enhanced. The interior space is extended by a zinc-sided box that adheres to the spatial envelope of the old building. Doubling the surface of the terrace establishes a true indoor-outdoor connection, extending the living space to the alley in the absence of a backyard.
