Sutton, Quebec
Residential
Ongoing
Complementing the main house, this addition for Résidence Sutton consists of a double garage, indoor-outdoor kitchenette, and small loft studio to accommodate guests. Contrasting the traditional opacity and flatness of rural iconography, the wooden volume is superimposed with simplistic yet generous openings and additions, giving it a resolutely contemporary allure. The wood walls bear a thickness to recall the deep stone walls of the main house and act as blocks serving the interior space. To keep the roofline low, the staircase to the attic is contained within the oversized skylight chimney. The upper-level loft incorporates a suspended rail system for curtains to flexibly divide the space and a wide terrace carved into the sloping roof.
