Petite-Vallée, Quebec
Cultural
Competition, Finalist, Honorable Mention

The project integrates a new year-round theatre and performance hall at the center of a new Arts Pavilion for the small community of Petite-Vallée. The low-profile form with its four-sided low-pitched roof subtly masks the building’s main theatre function by integrating the stage tower within the roof form, along with a small pop-up mezzanine hovering above the roofscape. The building's horizontality echoes that of the site, a long straight line where the sea meets the sky. The proposed architecture is largely inspired by local archetypes, with sloping metal roofs and white cedar facades. Above the metal roofs, the two volumes are covered in cellular polycarbonate. Both translucent and reflective, their appearance changes according to the viewing angle, season and weather. At night, they emerge from the coastline and glow like lanterns in the horizon.
